UCLG World Council
The World Council of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) took place from 5 to 8 November in Madrid. Barcelona Provincial Council is a member of this network. The Council's agenda included the Business Session of the UCLG Executive Bureau and meetings of various committees and policy boards, including the Policy Council on Territorial Multi-level Governance and Sustainable Funding, co-chaired by Barcelona Provincial Council. The World Council is the principal policy-making body of the UCLG. It decides the organisation’s policies and ensures that general policies decided by the General Assembly are implemented.
The event was held back-to-back with the second edition of the World Forum on Urban Violence and Education for Coexistence and Peace, organised by various bodies including Madrid and Barcelona City Councils, the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), the UCLG, Metropolis and UN Habitat. The forum is a meeting place for local leaders, international networks, the academic world, NGOs and civil society to debate, reflect on and construct common solutions that foster urban environments capable of eliminating all forms of violence.
