Objetive:

Guide that provides local governments and communities with practical ideas on how to improve the availability, quality and distribution of public spaces. 

Methodology:

The guide is a toolkit that is structured in four main sections:

1- on why public space is important for quality of life and sustainability;

2 i 3 - on the objectives, limitations, principles and policies that are relevant to defining the targets and scope of the project; and

4 - on how to carry out transformation projects, through multiple real examples and references from different cities and regions.

Opportunities and limitations:

Focused on cities or neighbourhoods that have high rates of population growth and limited financial resources.

The toolkit is presented in clear language, accompanied by relevant indicators, and illustrated with multiple case studies as real-world examples of implementation.

Indicators:
Km of bike lane per 1000 inhabitants (at city level).
Average width of sidewalks (at city level).
Proportion of streets adequately lit at night.
Proportion of streets with commerce on the ground floor.
Budget for maintenance of parks and gardens (per inhabitant).
