On January 25th, the Diputació de Barcelona presented the new IDEBarcelona download portal, in streaming format and through Youtube. In this session several topics related to geospatial data were discussed and it was explained how to access and make use of the geographic information made available to society through the portal, in open formats, free of charge.

The most relevant aspects of this new resource, which is now available to the public, were presented. The importance of opening to society the geographic data produced by all levels of government was highlighted, both for the value it represents for the return on public investment, as well as for the fact of aligning with the principles of Open Government and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda.
The place of geographic information in the open data framework was contextualized and the importance of opening data with a CC-BY 4.0 license was discussed, in order to facilitate interoperability with other information. And finally it has been exposed that having open geo-referenced information of the realities that operate in a territory is essential for a balanced planning and management from a social, economic and environmental point of view.
