Water, the focus of the first issue of the Life eCOadapt50 magazine - Life eCOadapt50

The publication, available in Catalan, Spanish, and English, aspires to foster collective reflection on shared challenges related to adaptation to new climate scenarios, to spread awareness of the project’s activities, highlight good practices that can be replicated to reduce territorial vulnerability, and promote more resilient environments better prepared to face the impacts of climate change.
The magazine features an analysis by Marc Prohom, head of the Climatology Area of the Meteorological Service of Catalonia, who states:
“The longer we delay effective adaptation policies, the more we expose ourselves to collapse. It is important to remember that there is no adaptation without mitigation.”
Next, the main results from territorial diagnoses of climate risks and vulnerabilities are outlined, emphasizing that water is one of the resources that will most heavily influence the future activity of key economic sectors, such as agriculture and tourism.
The issue includes an interview with Josep Maria Albet, owner of the Albet i Noya winery, a pioneer in organic vineyards and wines in Spain. For forty years, he has been collecting rainfall data and has an in-depth understanding of how climate change has affected the water cycle in the Penedès region.
The magazine also presents several [eCO] actions promoted within the framework of the project, such as the Drought Observatory of Terra Alta, the provision of portable desalination units on fishing vessels, and the promotion of interterritorial meetings.
Finally, Mariona Borràs from the Pau Costa Foundation presents the synergies with the ResAlliance project, with which the fair “Territory and Resilience: Fair of Good Agricultural and Forestry Practices” was organized. The aim of this event was to showcase and promote solutions that are either already being implemented or could be adopted—especially in the agricultural, livestock, and forestry sectors—to address climate change.
