Water management, a priority focus of the Life eCOadapt50 project in Alt Penedès - Life eCOadapt50

Second Living Lab – Alt Penedès County Council
Some of these actions are inherited from the previous Life Clinomics project (2016–2023), others stem from the Covenant of Mayors for Sustainable Energy and Climate (PAESC 2022–2023), and others have been proposed by stakeholders voluntarily participating in Life eCOadapt50 (2023–2030).
The climate adaptation actions in Alt Penedès are structured around eight main strategic areas, with “Sustainable Water Resource Management” identified as the top priority, as it provides a cross-cutting response to the adaptation needs of the tourism, forestry, and agri-livestock sectors targeted by the project.
In the second part of the session, participants worked in groups to evaluate the strategic areas and actions based on various criteria: economic, technical, social, and political-institutional feasibility; cross-sectoral impact; replicability in other territories; innovation in governance, technology, economy, and commerce; ecological and social benefits; and climate change adaptation potential.
Some of the actions being developed under the Life project include:
- Improving water quality in the Foix reservoir
- Using reclaimed water for agricultural irrigation
- Enhancing water retention in vineyards (e.g., building ponds, modifying paths, managing ditches and water channels)
- Installing rainwater harvesting tanks
- Promoting river connectivity improvement actions
