Promotion of local biomass

The action originates from the need of the region to manage forests so as to provide them with resilience in the face of the effects of climate change, as well as helping in the promotion of local biomass consumption, avoiding the current tendency of importing it from other regions.

The fact of having well-managed forests from the point of view of sustainability offers a variety of possibilities such as opening possible grazing areas, avoiding or reducing the risk of forest fire, preventing potential infestations by invasive species or excessive proliferation of native species, promoting forest maturity, encouraging species diversity, and generating dead wood.

5 wood sheds available to Gombrèn residents

The action is inspired by an experience launched in Navarre and the Pla Estratègic d’aprofitament de biomassa forestal per a ús energètic a la comarca del Ripollès (Strategic Plan for the use of forest biomass for energy in the Ripollès region) drawn up by the CEINR. It consists of the construction of 5 municipal wood sheds, each measuring 120 cm x 120 cm in the municipality of Gombrèn (Ripollès) available to residents with the aim of promoting adaptative forest management by supporting landowners.
